Franchise history
The Chargers were established in 1959 and began play in 1960 in Los Angeles as a charter member of the American Football League. They moved to San Diego in 1961, stayed 56 years, and returned to Los Angeles in 2017. They compete in the AFC West, won the 1963 AFL championship, and have one Super Bowl appearance — XXIX, after the 1994 season, a 49–26 loss to the 49ers.
